FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What instruments and ages do you teach?
I teach guitar students age 7 through adult and piano students ages 5 and up. Lessons are customized to match each student’s age, experience level, interests, and musical goals.
Do I need any musical experience to start lessons?
Not at all! Whether you're a complete beginner, have been playing for years, or are picking up the guitar or piano after taking time off, my lessons are designed to meet you where you're at and help you grow and progress as a musician in a fun and supportive environment.
What styles of music do you teach?
I teach a wide variety of styles including rock, classical, country, worship music, fingerstyle guitar, funk, blues, and more. Lessons are personalized to your interests, so you can learn the music that you want to learn while gaining a solid music education.
When do lessons meet?
Lesson slots are available during the day and in the evening. Most students take a 30-minute lesson once per week, at the same day and time each week. Longer sessions can be arranged for students who are more advanced or wish to study in more depth.
Do you offer online lessons?
Yes! I offer online guitar and piano lessons via Zoom. They're great for students who want flexibility or live outside the area. Online lessons provide the same personalized instruction and feedback as in-person lessons.
Where are you located?
I'm based in Frederick, Colorado, and offer in-person lessons in Frederick - serving the Carbon Valley area of Firestone, Frederick, Dacono, and surrounding communities. I'm located about five minutes east of the Carbon Valley Recreation Center.
Do you offer a trial lesson?
Yes! I offer a no-obligation trial lesson so you can see if it’s a good fit for you. Just fill out the lesson inquiry form, email me at connect@kathlynmusic.com, or call or text me at 303-562-8644 to get started.
Why is the 1st lesson free?
This gives us a chance to meet each other and get to know each other a little bit. You can make sure it feels like a good fit for you. It also gives me a chance to learn about your current skill level, goals, and interests, so that I can prepare your custom lesson plan for your next lesson.
Will you teach lessons in my home?
I might! Lessons in your home are evaluated and offered on a case by case basis. Lessons held in student's homes are subject to an additional travel fee to cover my time and expenses.
Can adults learn to play guitar or piano?
Absolutely! Many music students are adult beginners or people returning to music later in life. It’s never too late to start, and I’ll help you learn at your own pace.
Do you offer student recitals?
Yes! I offer the option to perform in recitals twice per year. There is no additional costs to participate in student recitals.
Do I need to practice?
Yes! Regular practice is essential for building new skills and maintaining the ones you've already developed. Most students make the most progress when they practice at least 30 minutes a day, five or six days a week.
Very young children and beginners may not need as much practice at first as they build their focus and stamina. Consistent practice strengthens memory retention, muscle memory, strength, dexterity, and much more.
Even shorter sessions—just 20 minutes a day—are far more effective than cramming in hour-long sessions once a week. Consistency is key!
Do you offer group lessons?
I may offer occasional group sessions for students already enrolled in private lessons. In the future, I plan to introduce focused group classes which will be open to anyone. Existing students taking private lessons will receive discounted rates on the focused group classes. Let me know if you're interested in group classes!
Do you teach children younger than five?
Not at this time, but if this is something you are interested in, let me know. If there is enough interest, I may offer group classes for younger children in the future.
What makes your lessons different?
Your success is my priority. I want you to have fun and experience real progress. I focus on helping you build the skills you need to play the music want, all while building a solid musical foundation in a fun and encouraging environment.
