FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What instruments and ages do you teach?
I teach guitar students from 7 age through adult. Lessons are customized to match each student’s age, experience level, and musical goals. I also teach beginning piano from age 5 through adult.
Do I need any musical experience to start lessons?
Not at all! Whether you're a complete beginner, have been playing for years, or are picking up the guitar after taking time off, my lessons are designed to meet you where you're at and help you grow and progress as a musician in a fun and supportive environment.
What styles of music do you teach?
I teach a wide variety of styles including acoustic, rock, pop, worship music, fingerstyle guitar, classical, heavy metal, and more. Lessons are personalized, so you can learn the music that you want to learn while gaining a solid music foundation.
How much do lessons cost?
You can find my current rates on the Studio Policy page or contact me for more information.
Do you offer online lessons?
Yes! I offer online guitar for all levels and beginning piano lessons via Zoom or your preferred video platform. They're great for students who want flexibility or live outside the area.
Where are you located?
I'm based in Frederick, Colorado, and offer in-person lessons in Frederick - serving the Carbon Valley area of Firestone, Frederick, Dacono, and surrounding communities.
Do you offer a trial lesson?
Yes! I offer a no-obligation trial lesson so you can see if it’s a good fit. Just fill out the lesson inquiry form, email me at connect@kathlynmusic.com, or call or text me at 303-562-8644 to get started.
Can adults learn to play guitar or piano?
Absolutely! Many music students are adult beginners or people returning to music later in life. It’s never too late to star, and I’ll help you learn at your own pace.
Do you offer student recitals?
Yes! I offer the option to perform in recitals twice per year. There is no additional cost for participation in student recitals.
Do I need to practice?
Yes! Regular practice is essential for building new skills and maintaining the ones you've already developed. Most students make the most progress when they practice at least 30 minutes a day, five or six days a week.
Very young children and beginners may not need quite as much practice at first as they build their focus and stamina. Consistent practice strengthens memory retention, muscle memory, strength, dexterity, and much more.
Even short sessions—just 20 minutes a day—are far more effective than cramming in hour-long sessions once a week. Consistency is key!
Do you offer group lessons?
I may offer occasional group lessons for students already enrolled in private lessons, at no additional cost. In the future, I also plan to introduce focused group classes, such as 'Playing Rock Guitar,' which will be open to anyone. Existing students taking private lessons will receive discounted rates for the focused group classes.
What makes your lessons different?
Lessons with me are personalized, encouraging, and rooted in real musical growth. I focus on helping you build the skills you need to play the music want in a fun and encouraging environment.
